Euromillions huge jackpot still
rising
The Euromillions jackpot now stands at £100million (Euros
152million) and your odds of winning it are one in 76,275,360. This
is the tenth Friday in a row that the jackpot has not been won,
despite millions of people all over Europe queuing to get a ticket.
But that’s because it’s not easy! You have to correctly
select five numbers from 1 to 50 inclusive, and two Lucky Star numbers
from 1 to 9 inclusive. It will be interesting to see if this jackpot
can beat one in February 2006 that reached £125million after
11 weeks of no wins. Under Euromillions lottery rules, if it goes
unclaimed for 12 weeks then it will be distributed to the next tier
(match 5 numbers and one lucky number). There have been seven Euromillions
jackpots won by UK residents, but the most have been won by France
with 14 winners and then Portugal with 11, and Spain with 9.
But steel worker Jimmy Goodwin, from Ballasalla, Isle of Man, did
not need to wait that long. He knows that winning a Euromillions
Tier 2 prize is worth it, as he won £1,228,704 on the draw
for 20 October (one of three such lucky players in Europe). That’s
more than the UK National Lottery tier 2 winners got that week;
they ‘only’ won £148,247. Now he’s a millionaire,
without having to win a jackpot, Jimmy plans to probably give up
work, go fishing in his new boat, and visit some Manchester United
matches. Jimmy is encouraging all his work mates to buy a Euromillions
ticket, but make sure you do it early!
- 6th November
Over 1 million tickets every hour were being bought for the
Euromillions lottery draw on Friday 27 October 2006, as the jackpot
swelled to £75m. But the jackpot was again not won, and so
it rolls over for the ninth time reaching a projected figure of
£88m for the Friday 3 November draw.
The Euromillions jackpot was last won on Friday 25 August 2006
when one winner netted nearly £40m. This year has seen some
huge Euromillions jackpots, for instance on Friday 3 February 2006
three people shared a £125 million jackpot, and on 31 March
2006, one ticket won £52m.
If you would like just one chance to win, tickets cost £1.50
from usual National Lottery outlets, and you have to match five
numbers (from 50), plus match two lucky balls (numbers 1-9). Make
sure you purchase your ticket before early evening on Friday to
beat the queues! And, if you are superstitious in the run-up to
Guy Fawkes night, Friday 3rd has been a big jackpot winning evening
for Euromiliions this year.
