Scratch Lottery Tickets

Scratch lottery tickets are very popular in the UK, but where are the luckiest places to buy them? Recently published statistics reveal the top ten locations in the UK for 2008, and the London suburbs of Uxbridge and Southall  took the number one slot for the second year in a row.

The Medway Towns postal area in Kent (postcode ME) climbed two places from last year’s fourth to take second in the “lucky league table”, and previous second place Newport (postcode NP) slipped down into third.

The statistics are based on the number of winners claiming scratchcard prizes worth £50,000 or more, viewed in proportion to the number of adult scratch lottery ticket players in that area. Overall, five of the top ten locations are situated in the South of England, but despite this, North West London (NW) and Portsmouth (PO) have dropped out of the top ten altogether, making room for newcomers Southend-on-Sea (SS) and Blackpool (FY).

The top ten table in full looks like this:

“It still looks like that in order to scratch their way to success, players should consider migrating South,” said a National Lottery spokesperson. “For the third year running, Scotland and Northern Ireland don’t yet have a ranking – but with Wales and the North West both managing to grab two slots each in the top 10, who knows what will happen this time next year?
